About ADU Ordinances

Accessory dwelling units (ADUs) provide a means to provide flexibility in housing choices that accommodates changes in lifestyle, and allows homeowners the flexibility to share independent living areas with family members and others, allowing older adults to age in place as they require more care, and helping extended families to be near one another while maintaining privacy. Several Kansas City regional communities have passed – or are considering – zoning changes that make the permitting and use of accessory structures easier and more affordable.
