Join us for the fourth installment of the Housing Policy Innovation Series hosted by the Greater Kansas City Regional Housing Partnership and Communities for All Ages. This event will focus on Policy Solutions for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) and showcase the winning designs from the Home Plus One ADU Design Competition.

Kol Peterson, an ADU expert based in Portland, Oregon, will lead the audience in a discussion around policy solutions for ADUs. Peterson helped catalyze the exponential growth of ADUs in Portland over the last decade through ADU advocacy, education, consulting, policy work, and entrepreneurship.

This event will take place November 12, 2026 from 2-4 p.m. at KC Meal Link, located at 1218 Swift St., in North Kansas City, Missouri.

The first 50 attendees will receive a complimentary copy of Peterson’s book, Backdoor Revolution: The Definitive Guide to ADU Development.

The four-part Housing Policy Innovation Series provides local government officials, policymakers, and housing stakeholders the opportunity to learn about and explore innovative, creative strategies that can be used to address the housing challenges in their communities and reduce barriers to housing development, preservation and attainability.

About Home Plus One


Home Plus One is an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) design competition that incorporates principles of universal design. The competition aims to educate key stakeholders in the specifics of universal and age-friendly design, generate buildable detached ADU plans, and build awareness around ADUs as a viable option for aging in place.
