Mobilizing the Circular Economy

Description

The world revolves, and so should our stuff. A circular economy is one where production and consumption of goods involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible. In this fourth and final gathering of our growing community in 2024, we're shifting gears. We'll be building on all of the work done to date and creating an action plan for mobilizing the circular economy in KC prior to the World Cup in 2026. Join us and dive into the group that best matches your interest: Education & Awareness, Technology & Design, Repair & Reuse, Composting, and Recycling. Make your selection when registering.

Time

Agenda: 

  • 8:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m.:  Meet and Greet 
  • 9:00 a.m.-9:10 a.m.    Introductions: Review what this community has achieved and our focus for this session.
    GROUP BREAKOUTS 
  • 9:10 a.m.-9:40 a.m.:    Problem: Define the regional challenges facing your group and select which one you want to solve in advance of the 2026 World Cup based on its potential impact. 
  • 9:40 a.m.-10:10 a.m.:    Action: Review how other cities and organizations are solving a similar problem, discuss how your group can replicate or reimagine the solution, and plan how to pursue optimal impact and with reasonable effort. 
  • 10:10 a.m.-10:30 a.m.:    Resources: Determine what time, talent and resources will be needed to move forward. 
  • 10:30 a.m.-10:50 a.m.:    BREAK: Refresh and network 
    FULL GATHERING 
  • 10:50 a.m.-11:15 a.m.:    Present: Each group has 5 minutes to present their action plan.
  • 11:15 a.m.-11:30 a.m.:    Vote: Every attendee will vote for the initiative that they're ready to support in the months ahead. We'll narrow the options to the three that receive the most votes. 
  • 11:30 a.m.-Noon:    Organize: Identify what role you are prepared to play in mobilizing your chosen initiative and plan the next steps with your group.
