This is a self-paced course, including discussion and skill-building activities.

Planning Commissioner Essentials is an introduction to the roles and responsibilities of members of the city or county planning and zoning commission. It is designed for individuals considering or recently appointed to the commission, as well as commissioners who have been serving for some time. This course will give you a foundation of knowledge to help you be successful in evaluating zoning and development decisions for your community. 

There are three modules:

  • Planning Commission Roles and Responsibilities
  • Standards for Effective Planning & Zoning Decision Making
  • Strategies to Manage Long-Term Growth

Time

GTI is offering Planning Commissioner Essentials, a virtual, self-paced course with a discussion board and skill-building activities that will introduce participants to the job, or serve as a refresher for seasoned commissioners. You will also gain access to a resource library with supplemental materials. The course has three modules: Planning Commission Roles and Responsibilities Standards for Effective Planning & Zoning Decision Making Strategies to Manage Long Term Growth.
