Get Ready to See Hazmat Come to LIFE!

Hazards, Risks, and Consequences during this 8 hour highly interactive class, participants will understand the significance in using physical and chemical properties to assess hazards encountered at hazardous materials incidents, apply physical and chemical properties to manage risk during hazardous materials incidents, and understand consequences of how things can go wrong on hazardous materials incidents.

During this lecture flashpoint, flammable range, boiling point, vapor pressure, auto ignition temperature, molecular weight, vapor density, and solubility will be demonstrated during this lecture. This lecture will also demonstrate the properties of liquefied compressed gases as well as cryogenics. These high energy fast paced demonstrations will leave the audience / students with a keen awareness of street-smart chemistry of hazardous materials and how to apply physical and chemical properties to Risk Based Emergency Response.

Objectives:

Participants will learn how to apply physical and chemical properties to the risk based response process through visual demonstrations of physical and chemical properties.
The significance of flash point and vapor pressure in determining air monitoring objectives.
Utilization of physical and chemical properties and engineering controls to manage hazardous materials incidents.
Visually witness the dynamic tendencies of flammable liquids.
Observe the significance of the “1300” rule in managing risk on hazardous materials incidents involving flammable liquids.
Understand the significance of flammable range and expansion ratio for flammable liquid releases.
Understand the difference between deflagration and detonation as it relates to potential vapor cloud explosions (VCE’s)
DOT containers and their risk factors during hazmat incidents.

Thirty (30) is the maximum registration for all sessions.
