Description


The Sport and Special Event Public Information and Emergency Notification course brings planners, operators, public information professionals, government, public safety, and marketing professionals together to prepare and/or enhance venue and event communication programs. The course prescribes best practices to common communication pitfalls and provides flexible and scalable solutions to a wide range of scenarios. The training leverages a combination of exercises, discussions, and activities to optimize participant experience. This training is applicable across the United States regardless of the venue size, capacity, or type of event. Those who complete this course can use this training to develop or improve public information and emergency notification programs for any sport or special event venue.

Course topics include: Communication Fundamentals, Managing Communication, Event and Emergency Messaging, Information Collaboration/Dissemination, Pre-Event Communication, Post-Incident Communication, Application of Communication Strategies

Target Audience:  Public safety and public relations professionals Venue/Event Managers, Venue/Event Operations, Event Planners, Public Relations and Marketing, Event Communications, Event Promoters, Government, Special Event Officers/Liaisons, Emergency Management, Fire Service, Emergency Medical Services, Law Enforcement

Travel costs are not provided.

There are no course prerequisites for this course but recommended training: 

  • AWR-167: Sport and Special Event Risk Management and Planning 
  • IS-100.C: Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS) 
  • IS-200.C: ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents 
  • IS-700.B: National Incident Management System (NIMS)
  • IS-800.D: National Response Framework, An Introduction

FEMA / SID Number. Students must have a FEMA Student Identification Number (SID) to attend class. You can look up your FEMA SID, or register for a new one, at the following site: https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid.

Please note that all non-U.S. citizens who wish to attend must be pre-approved by DHS before the start of class. Individuals will need to bring their photo ID to attend the course.

Time

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM each day. Lunch and snacks are on your own.
