Home Plus One is an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) design competition that incorporates principles of universal design. The competition will invite submissions for detached accessory dwellings that are designed to meet the needs of the area's older residents. While accessory dwellings have many uses over time, they are particularly useful as more manageable and affordable homes for older adults, and when combined with universal design and age-friendly features, can be an ideal option for aging in place.
The Home Plus One virtual kickoff event on Wednesday, June 24 from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. will provide an overview of the competition timeline, eligibility, design specifications, how to register and submit designs, and ways for partners to get involved. Anyone interested in the competition is welcome to join, including area residents, architects and architecture students interested in submitting a design, associations representing architects and builders, housing advocates, aging and disability service providers, city planners, and elected officials.
