Missouri Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan Kickoff Meeting

Join us on Monday, May 20, for the kickoff of the 2025 Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan planning process. Every five years, the Mid-America Regional Council helps jurisdictions on the Missouri side of the region update a hazard mitigation plan to meet requirements set by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Kansas communities are also in the process of updating their plans. This plan is prepared every five years to help cities, counties, school districts, colleges and other local jurisdictions reduce risks from future disaster events by identifying mitigation actions they might take. As a result of their planning, participating jurisdictions are eligible to apply for federal grant funds through FEMA.

Topics: Timeline Development: To include identifying key milestones and deadlines for data collection, stakeholder engagement, and plan revisions. Data Collection Strategy: Discussing strategies for updating data on hazards, vulnerabilities, and community assets. (This includes reviewing existing resources and data and utilizing risk assessment tools, and conducting surveys or public outreach efforts.) Stakeholder Engagement Plan: Developing a plan for re-engaging stakeholders in the update process. (This involves identifying key groups to involve and potential outreach strategies.)
